IGT Stuttgart Cup Championship Points Leader Will Wachs

IGT

For this final look at our championship points leaders we decided to take a Q&A approach to get to know 2019 and 2020 Stuttgart Cup Champion and current points leader, Will Wachs:

IGT

1) How/when did you get started in racing? Why sports cars?I started racing in 2019 after doing Porsche and Audi driving events, followed by three racing licensing events with PCA, SCCA and Skip Barber. I got into racing sports cars because Porsche 911s were my first real track cars. I have to thank my friend and first track instructor, Tom Kroth, as well as Dave Pierson and Chris Smith.

2) What are the origins of Gator Gang racing – paint scheme? My first race car was converted from street car to race car by BGB Motorsports, out of Ormond Beach, Florida. BGB was racing a similar Porsche Cayman livery in IMSA at that time. Because my father was a University of Florida graduate, and was proud to be a “Florida Gator”, I requested and was given permission from John Teece and Tom Collingwood to design a new livery similar to their own. We called our car the Gator and became the Gator Gang team in August, 2019 going into the first Mid-Ohio event. One of the young engineers, Nate Palsa, sent out a picture he made of our team with the GatorGang name — which really brought everyone together.

3) Anyone (people) you want to thank for getting you to the race and/or supporting you at the events?Thank you to my wife and two boys who are so supportive of my racing schedule and passion for this sport!Thank you Chris Smith, Dave Pierson, Isaac Stasko, Matt Maguire, Donald Jackson, Paul Radey, Nate Palsa, Simran Singh and all the GatorGang. You all rock!Thank you to the Mid-Ohio racers who are such a great group of instructors, track workers, safety crew and racing legends, especially Fast Freddie Baker and Tommy Byrne.
