OH! Mid Ohio

IGT

The Mid Ohio Sports Car Course has always been one of the most popular events on the International GT calendar and this year was no different with a sold out field.

There was a great battle at the front of the field as past Mission Foods GT3 Cup champion TOM PANK #42, from Ultra Performance was challenged by newcomer PJ HYETT #80. Pank was the overall winner in race #1 and PJ Hyett took the win in race # 2 and 3 in his Wright Motorsports prepared Porsche.

After a difficult Road America event and a race car that needed some extra attention, TLM team driver STEPHEN HAMMAN borrowed Jody Miller’s back up car and won the three 4.0 races. SCOTT ZDANIS a new comer in IGT competition stayed close behind Hamman and was runner up in all three races. MARCEL FAYEN #03 gave great pursuit and was on the podium all three races.

Although the racing was close within the 4 liter category the best battle of the weekend may have been between TLM boss David Tuaty and young Stephen Hamman! The two were wheel to wheel all weekend!

We saw fantistic racing in the 4.1 category TODD SLOAN #25 had a terrific weekend – Todd’s from Columbus so is used to the fickle Ohio summer weather and the ever changing track conditions at Mid Ohio. Todd won race #2, was third in race #1 and race #2. DAVID TUATY#68 TLM driver/owner also made the most of his Ohio trip, winning race 1 and placed runner up in race 2 and 3. MARK MATHYS #77 also had a podium weekend. Mark was second in race 1, third in race 2, and won the enduro!

As always our largest and most competitive category was in the Mission Foods GT3 Cup 3.8 category. There were 3 different winners in the 3 races. Ohioan ED BAUS #25, Demonspeed Motorsports won race 1, LUKAS PANK #40, Ultra Performance won race 2 and was third in race 1. It was super racing in 3.8 which resulted in a third winnerJODY MILLER #3, Team TLM who was on the podium for race 2 in second place and winner of the enduro on Sunda. BRADY BEHRMAN #428 competed in his second IGT race at Mid Ohio but this time he brought along a new team to the IGT family, Hardpoint Motorsports. Brady was on the podium for all three races with a couple of thirds and a very close runner up in race one. We can’t leave 3.8 without mentioning one of our favorites from the Ohio Players, BRIAN HICKS #22 who had a good run in the category and was second to Miller in the Sunday race.

Amongst the Stuttgart Cup Caymans we saw a rare 4.0 liter entry withCHRIS RUPPEL #09, Zotz Racing who swept the category and even ran amongst the leading Cup cars in races 2 and 3. ANDY PILGRIM #4, Barton Racing dominated in the 3.8 category winning all three races. He was followed by ANTHONY BARTON#427 in second for all three races. We also saw MIKE WARD #711, MIKE MARTIN #5 Zotz Racing and MIKE CLARK #33 on the podium at Mid Ohio.

In Maranello Cup Ferrari 458 category IGT welcomed back one of our favorite Canadians, ROB METKA #54 at Mid Ohio!! It was great to see the Quebecian (is that a word??) back in IGT competition. Rob was on the podium for all three races but had his best finish, winning Sunday’s enduro. We were also very happy to see COLIN COHEN #15, Norwood Auto Italia from Texas coming back to International GT competition and winning both sprint races! Colin joined with longtime Norwood Auto Italia crew chief CHRIS COFFEY #97 in a Masarati for the enduro and had a great run.

JUAN FAYEN # 17 swept the Ferrari 488GT category in his beautiful black Ferrari. He ran among the top 10 of competitors in all three races.

Lots of great racing among the fields. Once again Mid Ohio was a super fantastic event!
