IGT at Lime Rock ParkPresented by Interlaken InnRace Review

Memorial Day weekend brought International GT back to the beautiful Litchfield Hills of Connecticut to race at Lime Rock Park. This year’s event presented by the Interlaken Inn was a great weekend of racing. The two-day event saw several series regulars, some competitors we see annually and a few welcomed newcomers.

JOHN REISMAN #78 in the Interlaken Inn 4.0 Porsche won sprint race 1 and one of the regular IGT competitors, NICHOLAS GROOMBRIDGE #124, won both sprint race 2 and the enduro for SpeedSport.

STEVE KATZ #113 who we look forward to seeing each year at his home track, swept the Mission Foods GT3 Cup 3.6 category in his Ontrackinsurance.com Porsche. We love the photos we get of Steve racing on the edge at this track he knows so well. GREG JEZARIAN #40, one of six entries from Hudson Historics, was a newcomer to the series. Greg ran close to Katz to second in sprint races 1 and 2.

We enjoying seeing MARK MATHYS #77 at all the IGT events, however this was his first time racing at the 1.47 mile Lime Rock Park circuit, which is often referred to as a bullring. Mark took to the challenging track quickly and swept the 4.1 Cup category.

As always, the largest field was in the Mission Foods GT3 Cup category. TODD PAJONAS #806, SpeedSport, was another newcomer to the series who really impressed, winning sprint races 1 and 2 and second in the enduro. Twins MAX and ZACH ERLICH, raced with IGT for the first time (we will talk about Zach more later). Max #36 was runner up to Pajonas in sprint race 1 but had to sit out sprint 2 for mechanical difficulties. He raced a Cayman 3.8 in the enduro finishing third. One of our favorite regular competitors ALBERT LUKAZIK #47, SpeedSport, was on the podium for all three races and teamed up with STEVEN McALEER to win the enduro!

Speaking of the enduro, it was one of the best battles we’ve seen all year. The race started out damp but soon dried. Between strategy and tire decisions, there was a very lively run for overall honors. A late caution added to the mix and made for a thrilling finish.

Staying with the Erlich family, ZACH ERLICH #18 raced in the Cayman 3.8 class winning the first sprint race and taking second in the enduro. First time IGT entrant JOHN KOSTER #573, Hudson Historics was second in the first sprint race and went on to win sprint race 2 and the enduro.

In the Stuttgart Cup Cayman 3.4 category the third of the Erlich’s, dad JUSTIN ERLICH #5 won sprint race 1 and sat out to root for his boys for the remaining races. A return entrant to IGT after many years hiatus, was local racer, KIM ESTEP #744 who was second in sprint race 1 and won sprint race 2 and the enduro. Kim was one of the original participants in the Stuttgart Cup running at Monticello.

Finally, we were excited to have one competitor in the Exhibition category. WALLY OWENS #21 ran an Audi RS3 LMS and had a good run on the weekend, teaming up with GUY COSMO for the enduro.
