Riddell Passes Class Pole-Sitter Keith Faver for Win in Non-Points Sprint Race; Jack Baldwin Finishes Second Overall; Paul Reisman Takes Boxster Honors

SAVANNAH, Ga. (October 26, 2013)Bill Riddell slipped by pole-sitter Keith Faver in Turn 1 on the second lap of Saturday’s eight-lap RaceLink Sprint to win the first event of the debuting 2013/14 Stuttgart Cup™ Winter Series at the Historic SportsCar Racing (HSR) Savannah Speed Classic at Hutchinson Island.

Driving his No. 05 Cayman S that runs a flat-black Porsche 918 Spyder paint scheme, Riddell also finished an impressive fifth overall in the competitive 27-car field of production-based Group 5 and Group 7 race cars.

“Today, I was lucky enough to make a couple of the right moves to go to the front, although I was starting second, and not on the pole,” Riddell said. Sometimes you get a lucky break, the car worked well for me, mine seemed to be working a little bit better, and I knew I had to get away from Keith real quick because he is absolutely a great driver and a lot of fun. I was able to put another car in between us and build some distance before the finish, but it was great racing.”

Faver crossed the line second in the Stuttgart Cup class and a solid seventh overall in his No. 25 Cayman S themed after the legendary blue and orange Gulf Porsche 917s. He and Riddell were side by side as they crossed the start/finish line to complete lap one and went into Turn 1 the same way before the No. 05 edged past from the outside.

“Today was a lot of fun, I need to thank Bill for dragging me back out here and giving me a great race,” Faver said. “The Stuttgart Cup is just amazing fun and great racing.”

Third in the Stuttgart Cup went to Joe Sullivan in his No. 14 Cayman S that pays tribute to the famous Lowenbrau/Holbert Racing Porsche 962. He crossed the line ninth overall to put three Stuttgart Cup competitors solidly in the top 10.

Riddell crossed the finish line not far behind professional driver and multiple road racing champion Jack Baldwin who challenged for the overall victory. Baldwin, driving the No. 225 Cayman S that pays tribute to the Le Mans-winning Mobil 1 Porsche GT-1, finished second behind the race-winning 1973 Porsche 911 RSR of Cody Ellsworth. Catesby Jones was third overall in a 1974 Porsche 911 RSR.

“It is a tribute to the Stuttgart Cup and what they have done here,” Baldwin said. “They have taken the idea of the Cayman Interseries, carried it forward, and made it even better. These are great cars, they are fun to drive, easy to drive and make the perfect track car. Even though I was running up front, I looked in my mirror and the non-pro guys were right behind me, having time of their lives in these cars. These are great cars to drive no matter what level you are at.”
