Mission Foods has been a marketing partner of International GT since 2014 as title sponsor of the GT3 Cup Trophy Series.  The global brand recently expanded its marketing through motorsport with a new partnership in IndyCar and McLaren.  Mission Foods President Juan Gonzalez is an IGT regular and past winner of the Bob Akin Award.  The new ad campaign features the above with the McLaren drivers and International GT. Thanks to Juan and his staff for his support of International GT and the great exposure.

2020 Championship Battle Heats Up

As we head into the summer break and look forward to Watkins Glen in September, the championship points chase is on.  Normally we would have had four races in the books, but with the shuffling of the schedule the championships are wide open. What determines the championships?  Well participation is key, a minimum of five race events.   After that, podium finishes, beating cars in class and a little luck never hurt.  Here is a snapshot of where we are so far…

Mission Foods GT3 Cup Trophy

In Mission Foods GT3 Cup Trophy Championship points standings there are two ZOTZ Racing cars topping the charts! NICK GROOMBRIDGE #56 (above) leads the points race with a slim 3 point cushion over teammate CHUCK SMITHEE #55 (left). Following a bit further in third is 2017 and 2019 Champion TOM PANK #42.

There are just 13 points covering the top three positions. However, with only three races in the books, there is a great opportunity for anyone coming into the series to make a run for the championship! Remember we take the best 10 Sprint race finishes and best 5 Enduro finishes toward the final tally.

Maranello Cup

2019 Maranello Cup Champion and Rookie Of The Year, BENOIT BERGERON #127 is picking up where he left off last season, leading the points standings. Bergeron’s distinctive yellow Ferrari has not missed a 2020 IGT race, even overcoming border closings between his home country of Canada and the US. In second is COLIN COHEN #15 from Norwood Auto Italia. A long-time IGT participant, Cohen came close to taking the title in 2019, just missing the top spot…can he do it in 2020?

Stuttgart Cup

WILL WACHS #017 participated in his first International GT in June 2019 at his home track, Mid Ohio Sports Car Course. Fast forward to December at The World Center of Racing in Daytona and Wachs takes his first racing title as the Stuttgart Champion!Having competed in all three 2020 IGT races thus far, Will has a sizable lead in the category, however with five races to go there’s plenty of time for any of the other Stuttgart entries to give Will a run for the title.

One of the greatest things about racing at Watkins Glen in September is just how beautiful the Finger Lakes region of up-state New York is in the early Fall. One of our driver’s favorite courses, Watkins Glen International is a very popular stop on the calendar but it’s also a great time to explore the village and state park, hike the gorge and enjoy beautiful Lake Seneca. Click on the photo above for registration and to see the provisional event schedule. If you have any questions contact Julie at julie@internationalgt.net or (770)380-7770.
